The Missing Link in Climate Action: Time to Tackle How We Produce and Consume

Date: Thursday, November 13, 2025
Time: 11:00 – 11:30 (Belém time)
Venue: Press Conference Room 2, Area D

As COP30 negotiators debate fossil fuel phase-out, one truth is being overlooked — the climate crisis is also a crisis of consumption and waste. Transforming how we produce, use, and dispose of resources is essential to keeping 1.5°C within reach.

This briefing by Climate Action Network South Asia and Switch Asia will spotlight how Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and Circular Economy approaches can drive real emission cuts, strengthen resilience, and deliver climate justice.

Speakers will unpack why developed countries must lead in reshaping global consumption patterns — and how South Asia can leverage circularity for equitable, low-carbon growth under the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities (CBDR-RC).

Speakers:

  1. Ms. Kumudini Vidyalankara, Director of Economics and Environmental Planning, Ministry of Environment, Government of Sri Lanka
  2. Mr. Ranga Pallawala, Climate Change Policy Expert, Switch Asia
  3. Dr. Zainab Naeem, Head of Programme, Ecological Sustainability and Circular Economy, SDPI, Pakistan
