Purpose: The webinar features media fellows who will showcase their experiences while researching stories on impacts of Loss and Damage (L&D) caused by climate change, particularly Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD) —the irreversible losses to culture, identity, mental health, and ways of life. It allows us to hear their experiences of reporting on NELD.
About the event:
Journalists from Sri Lanka and Nepal who were awarded the Climate Reporting Media Fellowship as part of the CANSA-NIMJN and CANSA-CIR Fellowship, will share their firsthand experiences reporting on Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD)due to climate change. Ten articles were produced under Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) media fellowship programs with Nepal Investigative Multimedia Journalism Network (NIMJN) Nepal and The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) Sri Lanka. They shed light on how communities in these regions are experiencing and responding to these challenges.
At the event, the Compendium on Non-Economic Loss and Damage—a collection of diverse, well-researched articles produced by the six media fellows under this fellowship, will also be launched. The compendium captures personal and community-level narratives around cultural loss, mental health, identity, and biodiversity—stories that highlight the human cost of climate change beyond financial terms.
This launch coincides with the UNFCCC Bonn Climate Conference, where printed copies of the compendium will be distributed to amplify these critical voices in global climate discussions.
The webinar offers a rare opportunity to hear from the fellows themselves, understand the challenges of reporting on NELD, and reflect on how these narratives can shape more inclusive and responsive climate action in South Asia.
