Faith-based CSOs Call for Climate Change Action

A National Consultation on the involvement of Christians in the issue of caring for the environment and climate change was organised by Evangelical Fellowship Of India Commission On Relief  (EFICOR) in association with World Vision India and Emmanuel Hospital Association from February 10-13, 2014. The Consultation took place in the outskirts of Chennai. The main objective of the Consultation was to sensitise the Indian churches on caring for creation and to come up with a Declaration signed by Christian leaders in India, which can be further circulated within the Indian churches to encourage the Christian community in their ongoing endeavours and to contribute further to the care of the environment and the ongoing debate on issues like Climate Change.

The three days Consultation was attended by 79 Christian leaders representing seminaries, churches and development organisations from nearly all Indian states.  The first two days involved technical discussions and understanding the science and impact of climate change and the last day was spent on the framing of the Declaration which was later signed by the participants.

EFICOR is a member organisation of Climate Action Network South Asia.
