Cansa Statement: Bonn Climate Change Conference

Bonn, June 3, 2024:

As climate induced disasters intensify around the world, South Asia has been reeling under extreme heatwaves, deadly floods, and the destruction unleashed by Cyclone Remal, that have together claimed hundreds of lives, wiped out livelihoods, destroyed infrastructure and reversed what little development gains made by countries in the region.

It is therefore imperative for government representatives gathering in #Bonn for next 2 weeks for technical negotiations in the lead up to #COP29, to ensure that developed countries provide ambitious, additional, adequate and need-based #ClimateFinance goal that will replace the inadequate USD100 billion target in 2025. An ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) is essential to deliver equity and justice and must be based on principles of common but different responsibilities and capabilities (CBDR-RC) and #FairShares.
